Product Details

This fabulous Antique Victorian Scottish Agate brooch is Circa 1860.

The brooch is set with stunning plaid Agates.

The wonderful brooch is adorned with an engraved Silver crown in the centre which is laid upon a St. Andrews Cross.

The St. Andrews cross or Saltire, is a prominent symbol in Scotland and represents Andrew the Apostle, Scotland's Patron saint.

Scottish jewellery was made popular by Queen Victoria as it became a souvenir of her frequent trips to Scotland and her Scottish Castle Balmoral from the mid 1800s.

Agate is a strong mineral sometimes known as the earth rainbow for it’s patterned texture that shows varying colours the earth can produce.

Each plaid Agate is unique with beautiful natural colouring and polished to perfection.

The brooch is all set in Sterling Silver and complete with Scottish Silver ‘Kite mark’ on the reverse, as well as a very secure C Catch.

The brooch is so lovely and steeped in history, a wonderful collectors piece.

It weighs 12.2 grams

It measures 38mm across x 38mm down

In excellent condition all round.
